The Flying Wasp

Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. Ut bibendum tortor sit amet ligula rutrum, at porta tortor convallis ...

“Bless this ship, and all who sail on her. I christen thee The Flying WASP.” -- Mrs. Smails For all of you Caddyshack fans out there, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to include one of this movie’s most beloved sailboats from the famous marina scene. While The Flying Wasp’s pinnacle moment was having the Striker yacht’s anchor dropped through its hull, ending with Rodney Dangerfield’s famed quote “You scratched my anchor!”, I thought I’d use this painting as a way to imagine a more serene ending for The Flying Wasp. As if it had never been destroyed by a vulgar land developer in this 1980’s low-brow classic film.

The Flying Wasp is a 12x24" acrylic and ink painting on a 1" thick canvas, and does not come framed.

Nautical art has been a long established motif which for many was used to convey the beauty of their surroundings or the dramatic hardships of a sailor’s life. In my current series, I'm attempting to evoke the romantic gesture of transition, a theme found commonly thread through so many nautical compositions, almost creating a dreamlike state. To help accentuate this abstract upheaval often felt during transit, I've taken inspiration from J. M.W. Turner to develop my gestural painting style, while grounding the seascapes, by adding detailed illustrations of ships from both historical and fictional seafaring tales.
